I wanted to use resources that have been used and have been effectively used in my journey trying SLA. Here are a few of the resources I have used while I was reclaiming my language. I know there is many other effective learning resources, this is what worked for me and kept me engaged within my tasks at hand.
Language App
Having an app that gives you not only a visual of the items you are learning, but it also says the words with the use of real First Nation language speakers. This app was easy to use and user-friendly; it allowed for great navigation, with headings that were easy to access and easy on the eyes. I found the app helpful not only because it gave pronunciation, but also spelling. However, there are some words in the app that are not for the area I teach in. This app was my biggest help while learning the language.
Mācī-anihšināpēmowin = Beginning Saulteaux
This book was a good resource while learning the language. It has a variety of conversational phrases that make learning fun and enjoyable. The words are easy to find with the index section found in the back. The book was written by members of our neighbouring nation of Cote First Nation.
Fluent Speaker- Alvin Musqua Sr
Alvin Musqua Sr is a prominent member of the Keeseekoose First Nation. He was raised by grandparents who were also fluent in Anishinaabemowin. Fluent speakers are getting harder to find. I have the opportunity to access the language through my father-in-law, who is fluent. I appreciate the time he gives me and the questions I have about the language. This is probably the biggest resource of all the resources I used while learning the language.
